SUPERFOODS – Athletic Greens Review

The raw superfoods section of Athletic Greens contains a lot of organic superfoods. It is an excellent profile and very-well-rounded. You have a good mix of the three types of superfoods… fruits & vegetables, grasses and algae. Spirulina, broccoli, wheatgrass, alfalfa, carrot, spinach, etc… I’m very impressed with the variety; a total of around twenty-seven superfoods just in this section.

Athletic Greens has some superfood ingredients that are not found in a lot of other products which makes it unique in this way. For instance, papaya, bilberry and beet are ingredients you don’t find on every green drink label. I really like the broad ingredient list.

In terms of potency, Athletic Greens has good potencies of the superfoods. With a total of 8.5 grams of raw superfoods, this is enough to have a positive impact on the body. Overall, the superfoods part of Athletic Greens is impressive.

In addition to the superfood section, Athletic Greens contains a robust antioxidant and herbal panel. There’s a quality list of very good ingredients in this section for immune building, cleansing and energy. All told, there’s almost 3.5 grams of excellent, health-building nutrients.

Athletic Greens also includes 233 mg of digestive enzymes and a good, solid probiotics formula.

I always look for enzymes and probiotics in a superfood drink as they help the body absorb the nutrients and aid in caloric utilization.

Let’s talk about taste and texture of Athletic Greens.  Simply put, AG tastes amazing for what it is. As any green drink user knows, if the product uses quality superfoods such as green leafy vegetables, grasses and algae, it’s going to taste earthy, grassy and sometimes swampy. Athletic Greens does a good job of masking the pungent taste with a hint of chocolate. We put Athletic Greens as one of the best-tasting green drinks on the market. The texture is smooth and it mixes easily with whatever liquid you choose to blend it with.

We’ve been able to find an introductory offer for Athletic Greens for 50% off for only $48.50. This is by far the lowest price for Athletic Greens.

Up until recently, we’ve had a bit of a disconnect with Athletic Greens based on it’s high price. Let’s breakdown the math: the cost of Athletic Greens is $97.00. [As of recently, the initial cost of Athletic Greens is $48.50 if above and below links are used.] Each serving is 12 grams. There are 30 servings per container. The cost per serving at the normal $97 price is around $3.23! The cost per serving at the introductory price is only $1.62 which is a tremendous value.

Athletic Greens at 12 grams of nutrition is a decent mid-range product. (Mid-range meaning it is not as high in total nutritional potency as complete meal-replacement drinks like the Total Living Drink Greens  and Shakelogy. And at $97 per 30-day supply it seems to us that there is better value out there. However, at $48.50 per 30-day serving, Athletic Greens is an excellent value!

Here’s another example: Living Green Supreme Food is one of the highest-quality drinks in the marketplace and similar to Athletic Greens. Each serving of Living Green is 8 grams per serving. The superfood sections are similar. Living Green Supreme Food is $1.25 per serving and Athletic Greens is $1.61 per serving at the special $48.50 price. But you do get an additional 4 grams of nutrition per serving with Athletic Greens.

We’ve been a little hard on Athletic Greens in the past because at $97 per 30-day supply, we’ve felt it was over-priced when compared to other, similar products. However, at $48.50 for a 30-day supply, we were forced to update our review and update the value score as well.

Sometimes we are asked if there are side effects from taking Athletic Greens and other superfood green drinks. The short answer is rarely. Like anything that pertains to diet, if you overdo it, you may experience some problems and green drinks are no different. (You can develop yellow-orange skin from eating too many carrots for goodness sake.)

There are some things you may notice when starting on a green drink diet. These are especially true if you are used to a diet of processed foods and low on green leafy vegetables.

You may experience a noticeable difference in your bowel movements. This is completely normal and you should not be alarmed unless it’s a serious problem. Remember, Athletic Greens and other green drinks are loaded with vegetables and dietary fiber and this is going to move things along. But elimination through the bowels is the best detoxification we have.

Another potential Athletic Greens side effect is flatulence. This typically happens when someone first starts taking a new green drink and your body will get used to it.

The most likely side effect is you will start to feel amazing and have more energy levels than you’ve experienced in a long time.

  • Exceptional superfood list that includes a very well-rounded blend
  • Contains ingredients that are hard-to-find in superfood green drinks
  • At 12 grams per serving, it delivers a potent amount of nutrition
  • The taste is extremely impressive for a green drink
  • Contains digestive enzymes & probiotics making it more comprehensive
  • Superfoods are 100% organic

  • Be careful of their auto-ship program. Some folks feel that this is not made clear

Athletic Greens is a great product. I’m  impressed with the amount of ingredients, quality of ingredients and the antioxidants, probiotics and digestive enzymes. From a pure health-benefit point of view it is one of the better green drinks we’ve reviewed. And furthermore, it tastes great.

As we mentioned before, we’ve been honest with our opinion that at $97 per 30-day supply, you could find better value options elsewhere. However, at $48.50 per 30-day canister, we put Athletic Greens smack dab in the top-tier of our green drinks.

We receive a lot of comments and there are a lot of folks who absolutely swear by this product. And we get it… Athletic Greens is very good-tasting and a high-quality product.

I must say, I have been taking Energy Greens every morning for over 2 years now. I can honestly say that I feel terrific every single day. I am 76 years old and clean houses for a living. Nobody believes how old I am and I can work circles around young people. The one thing that I notice with older people is how they all seem to have problems with their weight which affects their legs. I do not have any problem and can still run with my grandchildren. I swear by the EnergyGreens that I take every day. No one is paying me to write this but I was reading the comment section and feel obliged to respond. My husband takes EnergyGreens also and he is a strong, energetic 77 year old. He also workks every day. We have stopped all the previous vitamins that we took and take only the EnergyGreens so it makes the cost seem less pricey as the benefits to us are worth it. It certainly is alot cheaper than being sick and going to the doctor which neither of us do. By the way, we also have 11 children and some of them also take EnergyGreens because they have seen the benefits to us. I hope our experience helps someone. Oh yes, I took a package to a health food store to see if they had anything equivalent but cheaper in price and the lady said that I had better stick with what I had as they didn’t have anything as complete as mine. I hope this helps.

My husband just sent me a link to the Texas Superfoods website asking me to compare it to Athletic Greens (I’ve been using AG for over 3 years now). My research on Texas Superfoods brought me to this site and then to this page, specifically. I felt I should throw my hat in the proverbial ring as there seems to be an awful lot of negative comments about Athletic Greens here. I’m a stay at home mother of 4 (ages 7, 4 and 2 year old twins). I started taking AG as a supplement when my second child was 6 months old. I have to say, I love the stuff! I am 44 and have never looked or felt better in my life. I used it through my twin pregnancy and while nursing (took it to my OB to be sure and got the OK). It is definitely pricey, although it is the only supplement I take (with the exception of my Omega 3s) and so I don’t mind investing in my health. Would rather pay on the front end to stay healthy than give to pharma later to try and get healthy. I have not had issues with their customer service. They’ve always been very friendly when I’ve moved the delivery date for one reason or another. Anyway – Real customer with 3 years experience: LOVE the product and have no issues with the customer service.

I have learned so much in the past 6 or 7 years about the importance of healthy eating! So much so that I have a passion for passing on and teaching others, my daughters, family and friends, the importance of a healthier lifestyle! The hardest thing for me is the profit that others/companies seem to have to make in order to inform and make available the tools and products that would give more people the opportunity, financially, to live healthier! I love Athletic Greens! I want so much for my three daughters to be able to take Athletic Greens every morning when they wake up, as they all have some physical issues going on, non of which are bad right now but most certainly will if they don’t change their lifestyle, which to me includes taking Athletic Greens! But, unfortunately they can’t always afford to eat organically, nor just as myself, take Athletic Greens, and is the reason I will have to cancel my future orders!!
